If you’re still recovering from last night’s Tony Awards, you’re not alone.
For those who have never watched the show, the Tony Awards bring together the very best from Broadway’s many stages for one glorious night of music, theatre and star power. This year we celebrated the show’s 70th birthday — and it was emotional to say the very least.
Following the tragic events in Orlando, the mood was both mournful and celebratory as the Tony Awards have always represented love, inclusion and celebration. The theatre community united in solidarity for the night, with each patron wearing a silver ribbon, making us feel a lot of different emotions.
We laughed. We cried. We danced like no one was watching.
These are the moments from 70th Annual The Tony Awards that pulled at our heartstrings.
1. The touching opening remarks dedicated to Orlando
James Corden’s moving words to the Orlando community set the tone for the night.
2. James Corden’s FLAWLESS opening number
We would give all of our money to see James in a one-man broadway mashup.
3. Renée Elise Goldsberry’s beautiful acceptance speech
“If you know anything about me, I’ve spent the last 10 years of my life, what some would consider the lifeblood of a woman’s career, just trying to have children. And I get to testify in front of all of you that the Lord gave me Benjamin and Brielle and then he still gave me this.”
Bless your heart, girl. You deserve that Tony!
4. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s breathtaking sonnet
Who else but LMM would accept their award with such beautiful words. CAN YOU PASS THE KLEENEX.
5. Jake Gyllenhaal’s impromptu Aladdin solo
BRB, making this our ringtone forever.
6. Finding out Josh Groban was in a production of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ back in the day

And James wasted no time finding that footage to show live on stage. Josh’s reaction= priceless
7. The beautiful performance from the cast of “The Color Purple”

These ladies are truly stunning.
8. THAT “Carpool Karaoke” footage

Half of the show’s cast is deaf — and they have counterparts that sing for them and act as their alter egos. Their performance was incredibly moving.
11. Sara Bareilles & Jesse Mueller’s emotional “Waitress” performance
We’re not crying YOU ARE.
12. The “Hamilton” cast’s acceptance speech
Truly deserving of the Best Musical win!
